My name is Shona Blackthorn
I know what Fibromyalgia is like, I suffered from it for over 25 years. I had every known symptom - and a few more!
For many years I did not know what was wrong with me and no doctor could tell me. The worst thing was not knowing what the problem was. I just knew I was definately not well and in incredible pain most of the time (twice I collapsed and was rushed to hospital with suspected heart attacks). I had insomnia and poor sleep patterns. I experienced severe abdominal cramps and stomach pains. I could barely get out of bed in the morning. I was constantly in pain doing the housework. I suffered from irritable bowel and always had to be close to a toilet at short notice (several times, to my great embarrassment, I did not make it). I constantly jumbled my words or said the wrong word (I knew what I wanted so say but a different word came out of my mouth). I frequently suffered from "fibro fog" and became easily confused (I am sure people just thought I was stupid). I regularly had bouts of depression, anxiety, emotion, crying, self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy and frustration. I was short-tempered and moody. I tired quickly and easily and lacked stamina and energy. My hair began to fall out (I started wearing wigs) and my eyesight deteriorated. I had to give up work. Several times I got on top of the condition and thought I had it beaten - only to see it return.
I am a very positive person, and very determined - I will not let things beat me. I was determined not to let Fibromyalgia beat me! I made it my mission to find answers.
The first breakthrough for me was finally being diagnosed (by a Rheumatologist) with Fibromyalgia. At last I had a name for my condition (it wasn't just psychosomatic) and I could research and learn about it and plan a strategy to deal with it. It is easier to deal with something when you know what you are dealing with and you realise that you are not alone. I read and studied all that I could about Fibromyalgia and met many others (mainly women) with the same condition.
I have tried many different approaches and I have found what works best for me. Contact me if you have any questions or would like to find out more about my recommendations to beat Fibromyalgia. Only someone who suffers from the condition truly understands what it is like!
